More about this scene
East Bridge, at the eastern end of East Street (left), was built by J and T Gale in 1784 and has been widened. This picture shows a mill leat from the River Asker (right) and a three storey building (left), the former Marquis of Granby, which dates from 1768. The 16th-century house behind it is reputed to have been the Hospital of St John the Baptist. There is another 18th-century house on the opposite side of the street, built in 1769 as Rev James Rooker`s Academy (right). Looking westwards, towards the King of Prussia, we can see the cupola of the Town Hall in the distance (centre).
