More about this scene
The Crown Tower and the chapel, which can just be seen beyond it, date from 1500. This chapel contains the best-preserved ecclesiastical woodwork in Scotland. The crown is that of the Holy Roman Emperor, symbolising the universality of the education to be provided. The buildings in the foreground were erected in 1830; built in the same freestone from Spynie, in Moray. The railings have long since been removed.
