Caption for Abergavenny, Holy Mountain from the Main Road c1955: Mardy village in 1955 had far less housing than it does today. The semi-detached houses on the left of this picture were the only buildings at that date. The district nurse and midwife Mrs Rowlandson lived in one of them for many years. The houses are now surrounded by the new Croesonnen Park estate, which was begun in 1965. In 1955 the land to the left of the road was part of Chandler's market garden.

Annie Tranter was born in Abergavenny in 1884 at 2 Chapel Road. Her brother David had a flower shop in town. I have traced the Tranters back to 1750 in Abergavenny. I have been there to visit, great town.
