More about this scene
From the Market Place our town tour heads south along perhaps the best street in Abingdon for the survival of older buildings: East St Helen Street. We are looking from the roof of the Town Hall. At the end is St Helen's, the parish church of Abingdon, with its 13th-century spire; the flat meadows of the Thames valley lie behind. The chimney and high building to the right of the church was a clothing factory built in 1852 - it burned down in 1944.
