Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church was built during 1867 to accomodate the increasing number of Catholics in the area, and to replace St Oswald's Church on Hyndburn Road. The church was opened by Bishop Turner in August 1869. It was a matter of great sadness to many when the church was demolished in 2004.

My Grandfather was baptised here in October 1891.
This is Sacred Heart RC Church, in Accrington. It has now been demolished. I have many great memories and some not so great from this sacred place. I felt like I had to share this info, with you when I saw this picture. When the church was being knocked down there was a last service mass held and it was a ticket only event.
