More about this scene
The grocery stall on the right of the picture was part of a small chain that specialised in rural community operation and catered for 'discerning' customers. The personal nature of the other stores indicated that the owners were committed to a high level of involvement in local affairs. The motor car in the centre of the picture is a Jowett Javelin - arguable one of the very best vehicles designed in post-war Britain. The Javelin ceased production in 1953 on the demise of the manufacturing company.
