The Beginning Of Our Life In Aveley

A Memory of Aveley.

After reading Colin's memories of Aveley. Took me back to 1956 when we bought our first house in Alfred Road, came under Mill Road Estate. We remember this place so well, it was where our second son was christened in St Michael Church, that was 1959, he was born in 1958. Our eldest son went to Aveley's primary school, where he remembers Mrs Skeets very well. She gave him a prize of a book, unfortunately, I can't remember the title at this moment. My husband managed to get employment at the the newly built Parts Division of Ford Motor Company in South Ockendon, this turned out to be a life saver, as he was employed at the local council office as a carpenter, The rate of pay wasn't very good at all, even at £2.00 extra a week made a whole lot of difference to us. We spent seven years there.
We moved to Hornchurch in 1963.
It was about 1980, I discovered that my mother's family came from Aveley, My mother had died I was unable to tell her about all her ancestors who lived born and died in Aveley Village.
