More about this scene

Caption for Aynho, Park House c1955: Aynho, on the Oxfordshire border south of Banbury, is a beautiful ironstone village dominated by its great mansion, Aynho Park House. The house was owned by the Cartwright family from 1615 until soon after this view was taken. After uncertain years, the mansion has now been converted into apartments by the Country Houses Association. This view is of the north front, which faces the village, while the south overlooks the River Cherwell valley, across a somewhat mutilated Capability Brown parkland of the 1760s.
