More about this scene
Above a great double avenue of beech trees, which line the road from Wimborne, lies the huge hillfort of Badbury. It is Iron Age in origin, and the Romans and the Saxons who used the ancient trackways nearby added to this dramatic earthwork. It is a suggested site for the battlefield of Mount Badon, where the legendary King Arthur defeated the invading Saxons in the year 520.
