Bagshot, High Street c.1961

More about this scene
Frith's photographer has chosen the best bit of Bagshot to photograph: he is looking south-west along the High Street from its junction with Bridge Road towards the Square. The bridge in question crosses the Windle Brook. On the left is the Three Mariners pub, an 18th- century building, but standing beyond it now are overscaled two-storey offices. This quieter and more characterful part of Bagshot is by-passed by the London Road, and the M3 is not far away. To the north are the sandy heaths on the geological strata known as Bagshot Sands.
