Designed by John Welch and built in the 1830s, the new Ballaugh church was one of a number built or rebuilt in the early decades of the 19th century. Others include St Patrick's, Jurby (rebuilt 1813); Kirk Michael (rebuilt 1835); St Paul's, Ramsey (erected in 1822); and St Bridget's Roman Catholic Church, Douglas (opened in 1814, the first modern Catholic place of worship to be built on Man).
