Convent Of The Sacred Heart

A Memory of Barnes.

Hello David, I went to the convent and also knew Sister Bernadette. I think this must have been in the late fifties, as when she took us girls for sewing, I wanted to make a swirly 'jive' skirt with circles resembling singles records around the hem. Sister Bernadette was very helpful with this but I was a lazy student with no discipline at home and never did my 'homework' on the skirt; this, one awful day, reduced her to tears and I felt so awful for making her cry that I was never naughty again. I remember seeing little boys there and I think they were allowed until the age of seven. I adored this school and it was truly the best time of my childhood. So sad to hear it's not the same now. My name was Cynthia Wilby if anyone wants to write in. All the best.
