More about this scene
Barrow Corporation purchased Biggar Bank on Walney in 1881 to serve as a public recreation ground for the people of the expanding town of Barrow. The bank provides protection from the encroachment of the sea, and here it is being used for relaxation as well. Note that the men are wearing flat caps and the ladies are all wearing hats.
