The 'Silver Queen' and the 'Silver Spray' (right) were among the first propeller-driven passenger boats to appear on the Island, and gradually replaced the numerous rowing boats that plied for hire in the bay. The District Council insisted that a better type of landing stage be used for embarking and disembarking passengers.
