Bath, St James Square 1929

More about this scene
Back uphill, past Marlborough Buildings, we reach St James Square, altogether more conventional. On a sloping site the houses step up, so the scope for grand palace fronts is limited; the central houses on each side are defined by a modest pediment. Designed by John Palmer and finished by 1794, the three-bay houses are remarkably little changed.
