Bath, St Michael's Church 1895

More about this scene
Replacing a medieval church that lay beyond the walled town's north gate, now commemorated by the street's name of Northgate Street, this church by Manners was started in 1835 in an early inaccurate Gothic Revival style: playfully un-medieval, but clearly cocking a snook at the Georgian architecture all around it, it was the first of several Victorian Gothic churches built in the city.
