Born In Liverstone Road 1948

A Memory of Battersea.

Sorry to everyone but my memories will be vague as I left the area when I was 3yrs old, to live in Victoria dwellings Battersea Park Road. The family name was Batt Nan Grandad my uncles Terry & Micky shared the house in Livingstone road with my Aunt Dolly and uncle Jim Penfold. My 5 cousins lived there until they moved to a new house in Winstanly estate. I was born in a house near the end of the road the other end from the prefabs. My parents Wally and Rosa Batt Shared the house with my Aunt and uncle Lilly and Albert Knight and their two sons, Bobby and Roger. My mum Rosa was Italian and worked at the Granada as a machinist making uniforms. Pie and Mash was always on the menu on a Saturday its always remained my passion especially with the eels which my nan taught me how to eat at the pie & mash shop in the market .My Dad Wally swam at nine elms bars with his brothers they also swam the Thames. When I use to visit relatives in Livingstone Road usually weekly we'd get off the bus at the stop with the horse trough I think there was a pub called the white or back swan. On the journey back from the visit I usually got caught short and needed a wee. If it was just me and my dad he would keep look out while I used the outdoor urinal. I attended St William Of York School till I was 13yrs and we moved to Bedfordshire. Most of my older relatives have now died but it would be nice to know if anyone remembers the family. I still have photo's of me riding my three wheeled bike down the middle of Livingstone Road. Last bit the winkle man with his horse and cart usually fish food for Sunday tea.
