Greys Dance School

A Memory of Battersea.

I remember Greys Dance School (opposite the Granada Cinema) I was about 6 or 7 I think when I started there in their ballet classes. I know that I had a tough time trying to get the foot positions right but couldn't quite get the hang of it. My mother thought that I wasn't cut-out for it, so that was that. I lived in Elsynge Road off of St.Johns Hill but was born in St.James Hospital Balham. I spent most of my young life until I was about 17 in Battersea. I was a pupil at St.Johns Infants and Primary School. Just off York Road.
I have lived in Australia since 1969 but still have many fond memories of my time in Battersea, I have been working on my family tree, my father and mother's family are mostly from the South London area. My dad was actually born in Kersley Mews off of Battersea Park Road over a stable where his dad kept his horse for deliveries.
Just one more thing, I was also a Granada Grenadier and can well remember singing the Grenadier Song. Happy Days! Valerie Miles (nee Beard)
