The photographer clearly found the sight of these two children in their donkey cart as appealing a sight as it still is to us today. It is unlikely that this placid animal was anything other than a family pet, since farmers in this area would still have been reliant on ponies and horses for both transport and labour.

Ted Turner was landlord here, and his father before him, then Ted went to the Holly & Laurel at Holmwood where my family lived, they had a cottage behind the pub, I think the cottage is still there, there were about 8 cottages there.
