Back on the A24 London to Worthing Road, and north of Capel, is Beare Green with the Duke's Head pub. This now sits at the east side of a large roundabout of at least an acre, sited where the A24 and A29 London to Bognor roads diverge. The pub itself is little changed, except that the old outside gents' lavatory on its right has been replaced by brick lean-to lavatories accessed from within the pub.

Ted Turner was landlord here, and his father before him, then Ted went to the Holly & Laurel at Holmwood where my family lived, they had a cottage behind the pub, I think the cottage is still there, there were about 8 cottages there.
