Beckbury, just a mile or so to the south, can certainly be described as a village, and it still retains its pub, the Seven Stars. A local man called Square Stubbs was born in Beckbury in 1671 - he used to ride up to 20 miles every day, always at a steady trot that became known as All Stretton.
