Eunice Smith Memories

A Memory of Bedfont.

My family the Smiths lived at Pollocks cottages down the Faggs road and when I was born in 1942 we lived there till about 1950 when we moved to the houses opposite where the fire station is now because of the building of the causeway. We used to play in the fields behind the orphanage and had many happy hours there. We lived next door to the Deichric family the father used to ride his penny farthing down the road. The Smith families have lived in Bedfont since at least 1600's and my grandparents were bombed out of their house in Hatton Road in 2nd ww and were rehoused in the first house in Mytle avenue and my gran went on to be 105 before she died so many happy memories of parties held in the hall down new road and walking all the way to baker stores on the corner of New Road and looking in the Windows of the old fashioned shops especially the apothagary shop with all the coloured bottles in the window and the beautiful wooden shelving in there. I was married in St Mary the Virgin in 1959 and both my sons were christened there
