More about this scene
Situated at the corner with Donegall Street, and very near the parish church, the academy was in a pleasant enough part of the town. It was not to stay that way, and no provision had been made for privacy or expansion. During the course of the 19th century, the street filled with the homes of skilled workers, along with a variety of yards and a wash-house. The numbers of pupils fell dramatically.
