The new village was in fact one long terraced row featuring an arcaded ground floor; this was a reflection of Sir Charles Monck's taste for things Italian. Sir Charles travelled widely; he took his bride off on a honeymoon that lasted two years, much of it spent exploring Germany, Italy and Greece.
