More about this scene
Hamilton Square was completed in 1826. It has the largest number of Grade I listed buildings in one place in England, with the exception of Trafalgar Square in London. The large building across the square is Birkenhead Town Hall. The white block in front of it is the town's war memorial. The monument in the centre was modelled on the original Eleanor Cross, which was erected by King Edward I - he twice visited Birkenhead Priory.
