At this time there is hardly any traffic congestion. By 1925 there were just over a million vehicles of all types on the roads, of which 695,000 were privately-owned cars. Within two years of this picture being taken, private car ownership had risen to over 1,100,000 vehicles. In 1931 there were over 5000 fatal and nearly 130,000 non-fatal accidents.
