The owners of these parked cars must be shopping. The first building on the left was Barclays Bank; today it is still Barclays, but it has had a fresh lick of paint. Houchin Street and Basingwell Street to the east of the High Street were cleared in the 1960s for car parks.H W Veck & Sons, a carpet retailer, has been trading here since 1928.
