Why are these different? All 300,000 photographs in The Frith Collection have been scanned, but as the photos were taken over a 110 year period on a wide range of glass & film negatives, using different photographic processes, every image has to be checked and optimised, before we make a print for a customer.

Blakeney My "Home"
I came to live in Blakeney at the age of approximately 5 prior to this I lived at Roxborough House in Stroud - I lived in a Childrens Home named "Meadoway" along with my 2 brothers and 4 sisters - we all belonged to the All Saints Church Choir at varying stages in our lives - the best place to play was called "the Butts" - wonderful memories of "long hot summers" and some mighty cold winters ie 1963? ...see more

Brooke
When I was small, my brother and I used to play at the brooke near the school. I went too. We used to put our feet in the water and try to catch fish. When we were older and the waterfall was low we used to walk over it. There was pear trees on the same side where we lived we had fun with them, eating the pears. When I had a stomach ache, my dear Mum used to say "you been eating those pears again" - they were the days.

1945 1962
My memory goes back to 1945, my surname was Virgo and I lived in Cluster Cottage next to the brook. I remember standing by the brook with my cat in my arms; I must have been about 4 years old. A man took a photo of the brook with me on it, it was on a post card. I went to High Street church, was in the choir there and went to the school there. I left Blakeney when I married in 1962. I have been back a few times but have a lot of memories of Blakeney. Rosemary Fortnum, Ipswich, Suffolk

Family Evenings Out.
I cannot remember the exact years, about 1950, when my Mother and Father used to take me and my cousin for a walk from our house at Lensbrook Cottage through six fields (which is a public footpath), and arrive at Severn Bridge Hotel. We used to go into the clubroom and Mrs Gertie Harris, the Landlady would play the piano. This was a monthly event on a Sunday when the Coach parties used to come ...see more

All our photos are printed as optimised versions of their originals, this process can take anything from 15 minutes to several hours. This ensures that the product you get shows the true quality that Frith photos are renowned for.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
