Happy Day's,,,, Now,,,,,,,,,,,,, Not Then. !!!!!!

A Memory of Blandford Camp.

I arrived at Blandford in September 1954. B company. Took a little time, but got sort of used to it pretty soon. I remember all the different types. Bankers, plumbers, labourers, carpenters office workers, farmers, etc, etc,. and all types imaginable. Then all had haircuts. All dressed in denims, and hey presto. Everyone looked the same. Six weeks of square bashing. Rifle ranges, lectures and bulling boots, pressing uniforms, blancoing webbing and after six weeks we resembled soldiers. Many, many memories which would take many pages to tell all. But I had a good time and I got fit. Fitter than I believed would be possible. Regular meals. Strict timetable. It taught one to look after oneself and have pride in appearance. This wasn't apparent until later years, and we didn't appreciate it then. But as the years rolled by we all benefitted. My name is Geoff Stringer Number 23221783. Anyone remember me get in touch. Please.
