The Dann Family
A Memory of Boston.
I left Boston when I was 2 or 3 back in 1945/46 but have been back several times mainly to visit St. Nicholas Church Fishtoft Road where, my mother Doreen Denis Deakin was married to Charles Eric Dann, I was baptized and my Gransfather, the late Dock and Harbour Master, Capt. Charles A. Deakin is buried with his wife Lillie (Booth) Deakin. I was born in a house called Romanica next door to my Grandparents home, Finlandia on Fishtoft Road, maybe a mile from St. Nicholas Church.
My father Charles Eric Dann came from a long line of Boston born “Danns”. Eric’s father Henry was a Master Baker as was his father, also Henry. Great Grandfather Henry had his business at 31 Horncastle Road a couple of houses down from the Ropers Arms where between 1850 and 1910 I believe, my Great Great Grandfather William, his wife Ann and their son William were the Publicans.
My parents divorced shortly after the WWII and we moved to Leicestershire. I lost touch with my birth father and have been trying to trace his history in Boston before Charles Eric and Doreen Denis married.
I would love to hear from anyone who could add to these memories for me. David D.C. Clark (Dann)
