More about this scene
Here we see the paddle steamer 'Brodick Castle' at Bournemouth Pier. She was built in 1878 for service in Scotland. In 1886 the Bournemouth, Swanage and Poole Steam Packet Company lost their new steamer ' Bournemouth' in fog, when she was wrecked on Portland Bill. They purchased 'Brodick Castle' as a replacement. In 1901 the vessel was sold to Cosens & Co of Weymouth, who were the owners when this picture was taken. She was sold for service in Buenos Aires in 1909, but foundered under tow during the delivery voyage.
