More about this scene
St Mary's dates from the 15th century, and stands on the site of an earlier Knights Templar house. The suggestion that the present house was built for the warden of the bridge was possibly confirmed when piers from the Great Stone Bridge were discovered in the garden during road repairs in 1839.
