Boston Manor Part 3

A Memory of Brentford.

Next to the underground depot on the Boston Road was a litte shop called The Acorn. It sold sweetss etc. On the other side of the line where offices are now was Boston Bumps. This was a piece of waste land where we rode our track bikes which were painted black and white. We called ourselves the Zedbras. I remember Michelin pimple tyres were the order of the day. Opposite was a little footpath which went down some steps by the side of the station and came out by the end of Southdown Avenue. It all seems simple now but to have a bike and explore this area was magic. To go down to the Grand Union Canal and take the towpath to Brentford and reach Brentford without going on a road was great. Of course the seasons changed things, also the time of day. Dusk was very poweful for me. Remember the M4 hadn't been built so silence was supreme, until you got home and put on your record player and Johnny Kidd and the Pirates where SHAKING ALL OVER, but that's another story!
