Bridport, West Street 1902

More about this scene
Here the photographer looks down West Street to Colmer's Hill (left), with the Lily Hotel projecting into the highway as it narrows to a normal width near the bottom of the hill. Rope-walks, weaving, and trailing along the pavements, are said to be the reason why Bridport has such unusually wide streets. Opposite is the Royal Oak Hotel (centre), and the Wilts and Dorset Bank (far right) had yet to be absorbed into Lloyds.
