More about this scene
Designed by Charles Dyer, the Victoria Rooms were built between 1838 and 1842. It was here, in June 1874, that a meeting was held to thrash out proposals whereby a university college might be established in the city. The college opened in 1876 in two houses in Park Row with just 87 day students and 234 evening students.
