More about this scene
The curving railway line in the near distance suggests that the photographer was looking east from the B3074. The view shows how most of Broadstone looked before the heathland was engulfed by housing estates in the 1960s and later. The village takes its name from a farm which stood near broad stepping stones across the Blackwater stream. The farmhouse, renamed Brookdale, is Broadstone's oldest surviving house.
