Cottage Hospital Near Buckhurst Hill Station

A Memory of Buckhurst Hill.

I have just read the memory posted by Tine Kooiman dated November 13th 2013 regarding a small hospital near the Buckhurst Hill railway station. She does not mention what time period she was there but I do recall there being a small 'cottage' hospital on Roebuck Lane/Powell Road which was possibly the one she is referring to. I forget the proper name of the hospital but it may have been called 'Forest Hospital' but I am not sure of this.
I was born in Buckhurst Hill in 1937 and my father, Doctor Stanley Roberts, was often called to attend to patients there during WWII and up to about 1948.
Some years later I was told the hospital had closed down.
Hope this information may help!

I remember the Forest Hospital very well. Lovely friendly little place. I worked there for a short while as a nursing auxiliary in about 1963. I was born and lived in Hurst Road, off Loughton Way, from 1942 until 1965 when I married. I went to Taunton House School for three years then to St John's where Miss French was the headmistress. The junior school teachers were Mrs Irving, Mrs Fisher, Miss Spence, Mrs Brown and Mrs Catling.
