Frenchies

A Memory of Buckhurst Hill.

Hi David Rowe ,only just found this site ,so apologies.
Re W&C French, you may have remembered my father and my grandfather working at Frenchies.
My dad Ron Dent ,drove cranes and brought the first 20 ton mobile Coles crane to W&C ,he also drove the old Fodens ,which only went so fast ,so they used to throw them out of gear down hill so would even faster ,then he was on the Leyland or AEC 8 wheelers ,with his mate Johnny Pegram.
Many times I went with on jobs ,over the country.
Grandad Jim ,worked a 10RB Navy ,at such places as Staines new road bridge ,spent some summer holidays there in a caravan ,fishing the thames mainly.
Would seem that we could have met , when cycled down to North farm .
Now 71 so lots of years ago.
Hope you see this and brings back more memories.
Peter Dent

Hi David
Your Father and Grandfather would probably have known my Grandfather at North Farm (WC French) - George Archer. An Islington man who was rehoused with his family on the Chingford Friday Hill estate towards the end of the war. He worked for them for many years from the 1940s through to the 1970s as a lorry driver.
