My American Grandmother's Travel Diary From 1951 — She Enjoyed Her Stay At The Grenville Hotel
A Memory of Bude.
I searched for Grenville Hotel, Bude and found this site. I was reading my grandmother’s travel diary. She visited the hotel in June of 1951 and reported:
“Very nice hotel, good dinner — staff friendly — coffee in the lounge on house — head waiter told us in the dining-room that coffee was being served in the lounge — very nice gesture. Intended going to bed early, but we are overlooking the sea — a rocky coast and can hear the breakers from our room so Will [my grandfather] and I got into walking shoes again and tramped over the moor to the water’s edge — a blustery night but not cold — enjoyable walk. The sun was just visible through the clouds as it was setting at 9 pm.”
Thank you for having this photo online and giving me a historical glimpse of where she stayed nearly 73 years ago.
