More about this scene

Maynscroft restaurant and café and the adjoining William's cycle shop (right) closed shortly after 1955 and became dwellings. The Queen's Head closed in c1990 and is now a restaurant. The empty building has been demolished, while Chambers still run their coaches from the tall gabled building. Opposite on the corner of Bridge Street is the shop run by Len Mylott in the 1950s.

3 Way Café 1970's
The Café was run during the majority of the 1970s by an Austrian couple, Norbert and Paula. Paula could have been German, the family moved to Austria after their tenure ended. The children if memory serves me correctly were Heide, Peter and Becki. Our families were friends from when the family lived in Wickham Bishops. Paula and my mother (Inge) were great friends who stayed in contact for many years after the family moved to Austria, but alas contact was lost.

The Gunstons
After the war, the cafe was owned by Mr Frank W & Mrs Cecile Gunston, I know this because I married their daughter Margaret. It was the Gunstons that gave the cafe its name.

'threeways Cafe', Bures
My dad and mum owned the Threeways Cafe in Bures for a while in the late 1950s, they where Eddie and Margaret Morris. If anyone remembers them I would like to see their memories. Mary

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
