A penny-farthing can be seen leaning against the front of the cycle stores in the centre of Burley, which John Wise described in 1863 as 'one of the most primitive of (New) Forest hamlets'. By the time this photograph was taken, approximately one hundred years later, it was firmly on the tourist trail.
