More about this scene

On the right with the railings are two fine examples of clothiers' houses from the mid 17th century, re-fronted and altered in the late 18th century. Sheldon House, second on the right, was the home of the Bailys, a leading clothier family. (Their memorial tablet can be seen in Calstone church.) It dates from 1656, and has attractive pilasters, cornices and parapet features, and a coped gable with a right- hand ball finial.
