Cardiff, The Docks 1893

More about this scene
The growth of Cardiff's docks was to some extent a symptom of their own success. There was simply too much coal coming down the valleys from Merthyr for the wharves to cope with. Hence, ships of all sizes and from all parts had to berth in the outer docks and wait their turn. The one in the centre, pictured here, has docked from Liverpool.
