My family lived here in 1830s and were called Betts. I wonder if anyone was aware about a lady who married a George Betts my 3rd Gt Grandfather, her name was Catharina Nicholson and was from Italy I believe but was born in Greece. If anyone has information i would be very grateful. I know that she is buried in the local churchyard in 1885.
I noticed someone spoke on here about the Ranch. It was a road off Rotherham Baulk but did not have a road surface on it so it was more of a path.It connected Carlton to Costhorpe but the area now has an industrial estate and a residential estate and is known as Costhorpe.I remember the Deakin family living on the ranch when we were kids but cant really remember their names apart from Joe who ...see more
Hi, my husband was born and raised (until the age of 5) in a part-railway carriage on land known locally as The Ranch . I can't find any mention of these in any documents and was wondering if any body has a photo or knowledge they can share with us. Many thanks, joan Pearson
I was born in Carlton and lived there until I married in 1981, my maiden name was Fotheringham. My great grandma was Mrs Padley who owned the sweet shop on the main road, we used to visit regularly and I remember her back room still having the meat hooks in the ceiling, and if we needed the loo we had to go down into the garden and it was just a shed with a soil toilet, it was really creepy, especially in the ...see more
