Carn Barges

A Memory of Carn Barges.

For me the memory of Carn Barges brings with it another story. That of the life of Derek and Jeannie Tangye.
For a number of years they had been looking for their ideal escape from it all place to live. One day whilst on holiday in Cornwall, it happened. As they were walking from Lamorna Cove along the coastal path, which was only an informal pathway at that time) they stopped at Carn Barges to admire the view. As Jeanie turned to look inland she cried out 'There it is!'. There nestling in the hillside was small granite cottage with land around it far from the road within sight and sound of the sea. Here they were to live for over forty years and run a flower farm. Jeannie was to write four books about her time and life as Publicity Officer at The Savoy Hotel Group during the war years and Derek wrote over 19 books on their life at Dorminack (Minack) which became affectionately known as The Minack Chronicles. Over the years fans from across the globe have travelled to this small corner of Cornwall and some have taken courage and visited Derek and Jeannie. Today it is a place of pilgrimage for these fans, old and new and one that even without its famous history would still take your breathe away as you sit and contemplate and immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings.
