More about this scene

Standing on a 300 ft limestone crag overlooking the Towy Valley, the present Carreg Cennen dates from the late 13th century, though the site has historical links with the ancient commote of Is-Cennen, and sections of the south and west curtain walls might date from a castle held by Rhys Fychan in the 1240s. Late 13th-century work includes the gatehouse to the inner ward and the chapel tower; the barbican and outer ward are later. The castle was slighted by Yorkists during the Wars of The Roses.
