More about this scene
The sign on the shop wall, where the tickets were sold, shows that admission to the Priory Church was 6d. Cartmel Priory has been a tourist attraction for a long time, partly because of its belfry, which is constructed diagonally across the tower below. Inside the church are the four piers that support it. Founded in 1190 by William Marshall, Baron of Cartmel and later 1st Earl of Pembroke, Cartmel was a priory of the Augustinian Order and still serves as the parish church.
