More about this scene
In 1823 John Butcher, a preacher from Bolton, was landed by fishing boat at Derby Haven and brought Primitive Methodism to the island. The movement's birthplace was at Mow Cop, Staffordshire, where Hugh Bourne and William Clowes held their first meetings in 1807. They were later expelled from the Methodist Conference and took the name Primitive Methodists in 1811.
