More about this scene
The rocky entrance to Castletown meant that the harbour remained under-developed and under-used for years. In 1955 Douglas handled around 70 per cent of the island's imports and exports, while Castletown accounted for less than 4 per cent of imports and no exports. Things improved in the mid-1970s when Castletown was upgraded to handle a container service, resulting in the port handling 15 per cent of imports and 20 per cent of exports.
