More about this scene
This view looks towards King William's College, Derby Haven and St Michael's Island. Near the college is Hango Hill, the scene in 1663 of the execution of the Manx patriot William Christian (Illian Dohne) for his role in the rebellion of 1651. He was sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered but this was commuted to shooting by a firing squad on account of his wife's 'inconsolable condition'. He was shot before news of his successful appeal to Charles II reached Man.
